Enabling smart integrated care:
An interactive workshop to develop and review policy recommendations on promoting interoperability of personal health solutions
Brussels, 18 January 2011
Drawing on the experience of the three stakeholder workshops in Barcelona, Belfast and Berlin, the SmartPersonalHealth project has developed draft recommendations for European, national and regional level policy makers to promote the adoption of interoperable personal health systems. The draft recommendations are based on three stakeholder consultations in March, June and September 2010 with healthcare professionals, device and personal health system (PHS) vendors, and procurers.
This workshop re-convened the stakeholders to review and refine recommendations to:
- Improve exchange and cooperation among key stakeholders;and
- Create a supportive environment (the structures and organisations, measures and processes to support standards development, certification and uptake)
The discussions analysed the current state of the PHS market, identified complications and issues from the view of selected professionals, and presented recommended actions for regulators, national and regional decision-makers, professional stakeholders, industrial stakeholders, and patients.
The workshop was moderated by professional facilitator Tamsin Rose and included stakeholder views and reactions articulated by:
- George Crooks, Clinical Director/Chief Operating Officer for NHS 24
- Paul de Raeve, European Federation of Nurses
- Robert Johnstone, International Alliance of Patients‘ Organisations
- Prof Harald Korb, Vitaphone
